Marysol first participated with the New York International Salsa Congress in 2010. Invited by owner Jean “Choco” Knight, Marysol was part of the DJ line-up in 2010, 2011, and 2012. She DJ’d the opening party for the NYISC in 2013. Marysol resumed her participation in 2015, again invited by “Choco” to DJ at the festival’s new location at the Wyndham New Yorker. Sadly, Choco passed away in October of the same year. In 2016, Marysol was invited by the new owners of the New York International Salsa Congress to participate as Director of the Old Skool Room, a matinee dance dedicated to the classic dancers of the NYC salsa and mambo scene of the past. Marysol has had the honor of organizing the dance since 2016 to the present day. She is proud to continue the legacy of live music and dancing in NYC via her partnership with this internationally known and respected organization. The 111th Street Old Timers Stickball Organization was founded in 1968 in El Barrio, NYC. The committee organized a community stickball tournament and street fair on 111th street to honor the sport as well as the rich Latino culture in El Barrio, which for many years was primarily Puerto Rican. Nonetheless, people of all cultures and backgrounds have enjoyed this event year after year. Aside from celebrating the sport of Stickball and the strong Boricua culture in El Barrio, Old Timers also provides a place for live music performances and for generations of musicians to reunite. Marysol was invited to emcee in 2016 and DJ and emcee in 2017 & 2018. It is her honor to have been inducted as a committee member in early 2017 at the behest of the committee members. Join the Old Timers’ Facebook group to view photos and videos of past festivals and to keep track of this year’s event. The festival takes place the 2nd Sunday of July on 11th Street between Lenox and 5th Avenues.
It has been a privilege for Marysol to be invited by Lincoln Center, the world’s leading performing arts center, as DJ for two major concert series; “¡VAYA! 63” and “Midsummer Night Swing”. As stated on their website, “Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts serves three primary roles: world’s leading presenter of superb artistic programming, national leader in arts and education and community relations, and manager of the Lincoln Center campus.”
“¡VAYA! 63” is a live music concert series held seasonally in the David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center. This concert series highlights popular latin music and dancing as well as other genres and is free to the public. Marysol participated as DJ in 2016 for Edwin Bonilla’s live performance and again in 2017 for Fajardo, Jr. y Sus Estrellas.
Midsummer Night Swing is New York’s best dance party under the stars. Held in Damrosch Park at Lincoln Center, MSNS joins the best of live music and dancing with being outdoors. There is nothing like summer in the city! Marysol was included in the artist line-up in 2017 for the Don Perignon y La Puertorriqueña concert and again in 2018 for the Joe Quijano and Conjunto Cachana performance. Both concerts opened the salsa portion of the concert series.
